London - For many Britons, the epitome of Prince Charles' on-again, off-again romance with Camilla Parker Bowles was the transcript of a racy telephone conversation they allegedly had years ago.
The transcript appeared in Australian and British media in 1993, the year that then-Prime Minister John Major announced Charles' separation from Princess Diana after more than 11 years of marriage.
For months the tabloids had been reporting that the marriage was on the rocks.
The transcript of the 1989 phone tryst "finally confirms Camilla's long-standing, passionately familiar relationship with the man who would be king", one Australian magazine said.
The conversation between Prince Charles and Parker Bowles reportedly was taped by a radio enthusiast who was scanning London's mobile telephone frequencies on December 18 1989.
In one part of the chat, which exudes sexual intimacy, the woman identified as Parker Bowles says she needs her partner all the time.
To this the male speaker replies: "Oh God, I'll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier."
Much of the conversation deals with how and where the two can meet. Toward the end, they swear love for each other.
Woman: "I do love you, and I'm so proud of you."
Man: "Oh, I'm so proud of you."
Woman: "Don't be so silly, I have never achieved anything."
Man: "Yes you have."
Woman: "No I haven't."
Man: "Your great achievement is to love me."
Woman: "Oh, darling. Easier than falling off a chair."
