London - Veteran British rock stars Elton John, Rod Stewart and Phil Collins are among the top names who have agreed to sing on a charity single to aid victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami, organisers said on Wednesday.
The single - a cover of Eric Clapton's weepie ballad Tears in Heaven - will also feature US singers Pink and Gwen Stefani, along with Aerosmith's Steve Tyler, as well as opera tenor Andrea Bocelli.
American rock band Velvet Revolver, formed from the remnants of 80s superstars Guns 'n' Roses, will provide the musical backing.
The charity single is being organised by Sharon Osbourne, the wife and manager of rocker Ozzy Osbourne and now a star in her own right following a US reality TV show chronicling the Osbourne family's life.
Due to be recorded later this week in London, and subsequently in Los Angeles, the track will raise money for British-based charity Save The Children to assist victims of the December 26 disaster, which left nearly 220 000 dead.
"Everyone has come together for this project and offered their time and full commitment without question," Osbourne said.
Tears in Heaven was first recorded by Clapton as a tribute to his four-year-old son, who died in 1991 after falling from a high window.
