London - A commemorative set of James Bond stamps went on sale in Britain on Tuesday to mark 100 years since the birth of Ian Fleming, the superspy's creator.
The stamps cover designs from six of Fleming's Bond novels - Casino Royale, Diamonds Are Forever, From Russia With Love, Dr No, Goldfinger and For Your Eyes Only - published between 1953 and 1960.
"It is estimated that over half the world's population have heard of James Bond which is an incredible testament to the imagination of his creator," said Julietta Edgar, Royal Mail's head of special stamps.
"I'm delighted to see that the most famous superspy is once again in the service of queen and country and will be appearing on millions of items of post."
Actress Samantha Bond, who played secretary Miss Moneypenny in four Bond films during Pierce Brosnan's turn as Agent 007, posed beside an Aston Martin DB6 car to publicise the stamps, on sale at post offices in Britain and online.
Fleming was born in London's well-heeled Mayfair district on May 28 1908. He died of a heart attack aged 56 in August 1964.
