Los Angeles - Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton have adopted a baby boy from Cambodia, her father, Jon Voight, said on Monday at a luncheon honouring Academy Award nominees.
"Angelina adopted a Cambodian baby," Voight told reporters, creating a stir in the room. "I'm a grandfather today."
He said Jolie, 26, received custody of the baby on Sunday in Africa, where she is on location with her latest film project. He said Thornton, 46, was in the United States.
Jolie and Thornton, who met while making the 1999 air traffic control comedy Pushing Tin, were married in Las Vegas in May 2000.
Representatives for the couple were not immediately available for comment.
Voight has been nominated as best supporting actor for his role as famed sportscaster Howard Cosell in the boxing film Ali, starring Will Smith as heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali. It marks the fourth Oscar nomination of Voight's career. He won an Academy Award for best actor in 1979 for playing a Vietnam War veteran in the film Coming Home.
Jolie, who won an Oscar in 2000 for her supporting role in the film, Girl, Interrupted, was last in theatres as a femme fatale in Original Sin. Thornton's most recent big-screen role was in Monster's Ball, with Halle Berry.
