Los Angeles - Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger's bid to be California's next governor became embroiled in more controversy on Monday as reports surfaced that he made racist comments and disparaging remarks about America in the 1970's.
According to the Drudge Report website, a former black bodybuilder accused the Austrian-born action movie star of having a history of making racist comments, including an anti-black tirade at a bodybuilding banquet in the 70's.
The allegations by Robby Robinson came just days after another black bodybuilder, Rick Wayne, made similar charges.
"No disrespect to fans of Arnold but Rick's claim is in keeping with my experiences with the man," Robinson was quoted as saying.
Schwarzenegger is trying to fight off a wave of negative publicity which could upset his strong showing prior to the October 7 recall election.
Controversy erupted two weeks ago when another website, the Smoking Gun, unearthed a 1977 interview in which the former Mr Universe boasted about having group sex, receiving oral sex prior to competitions and using drugs.
On Monday, Time magazine unearthed another interview given by Schwarzenegger in the same year during which he denigrated Americans as lazy and money-grabbing compared to Europeans.
"Americans are still sitting on their asses waiting for it," he told the British magazine Time Out. "Europeans are hungry because we don't have that much." - Sapa-DPA
