Johannesburg - Three young South African filmmakers will get their 18 minutes of fame when a short film they directed premieres at the Cannes Film Festival in France on May 16.
The trio, Dean Blumberg, Adam Thal and Ryan Poole, all in their early and mid twenties, will jet off to the prestigious festival where their film Under the Rainbow will be shown to the biggest names in the international film industry.
The 18-minute film, a poetic re-enaction of actual events which took place in the inner city of Johannesburg was filmed entirely in Zulu, with English subtitles, and commissioned by M-Net.
"We will get an opportunity to meet international players in the film industry and will in turn promote South Africa and the myriad of film making opportunity our country has to offer," the trio said.
Under the Rainbow was recently awarded the Grand Prize at the 2004 Cabbagetown Short Film Festival held in Toronto.
The film also won the Best Short Film award at the 2003, Short End World Schools Festival in London and was the recipient of the Certificate Of Mention at the International Festival of Schools in Mexico City in the same year.
