Idols take on the world

Cape Town - The Idols stage is about to get bigger with the ultimate World Idol competition approaching.
Fans of the show will be able to watch Idols winners from around the world in action, not to mention South Africa's own Heinz Winckler. Other contestants include Kelly Clarkson from the US, Will Young from the UK and Arabian winner Diana Carzon.
The Idols website has reported that the show's main recording will take place on December 16, and it will air on SA television screens on December 24 at 20:00.
South African audiences will have 24 hours to vote for their favourite performer, but will not be able to vote for Winckler. All other countries involved will go through the same voting process, and so a winner will be determined.
The results show will be broadcast on January 7 2004 at 19:30.
But Winckler will not be the only South African to get some exposure on the international show. One of SA's judges as well as a presenter will be involved.
It should be interesting to see which judge is chosen to represent the panel. Will it be acid-tongued Randall Abrahams? He'd definitely give Simon Cowell a run for his money. Or will it be diplomatic Dave? Hopefully Colin Moss is chosen as the presenter, it's time for SA to show him off to the rest of the world.
The competition will see some of the world's most-talented singers compete against each other for the ultimate Idol title.
All that remains to be seen is whether Winckler will be able to give the rest of the contestants a run for their money, and hopefully he'll be able to use this competition as a platform for bigger and greater things.
