Kylie's cancer 'may have spread'
2005-06-13 10:34
Cape Town - All hopes that Kylie Minogue would be up and about before the close of 2005 have been dashed, according to heat magazine (on the street from Tuesday).
In an exclusive report, the magazine reveals that the pop star has been ordered to take a year off while she continues her breast cancer treatment and is likely to lose her role in the upcoming 007 blockbuster.
Says heat editor, Melinda Shaw: "The announcement comes amid doctors' fears that the disease may have spread, despite the fact that Kylie underwent surgery last month to have a cancerous lump removed. She has a long journey ahead of her before she can go back to work."
Kylie will have to undergo at least six more months of intensive treatment and a further six months to recover.
This news will no doubt influence negotiations with 007 film producers as Kylie was cast as the female lead in the next Bond film, Casino Royale.
Shooting is scheduled to start early next year.
Breast cancer rife in SA
With statistics showing that one in every nine women in South Africa will get breast cancer (the most common type of female cancer worldwide), heat publisher Kim Browne has announced that R1 for every issue of the celebrity title sold this week will be donated to the Breast Health Foundation.
The Breast Health Foundation is a South African charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research and education.
Says Browne: "The disturbing news that young women like Kylie and fellow chart-topper Anastasia can fall victim to breast cancer, places a spotlight on the fact that anyone is at risk.
All of us at heat decided that we wanted to play a part in educating women, and that Kylie would approve of our initiative to help her South African fans and indeed all women in this country to seek early treatment".
Commenting on these developments, Breast Health Foundation head Dr Carol Benn said: "Breast Cancer is no longer our mother's disease.
As with Kylie, it can occur early on. We warmly support heat's efforts to draw attention to the disease."
