Beverly Hills - Australian actor Heath Ledger received a posthumous Golden Globes nomination here on Thursday for his acclaimed performance in the Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight.
Ledger, who died of a drug overdose in New York in January at the age of 28, was nominated in the best supporting actor category for his portrayal of cackling villain the Joker in the hit film.
The Perth-born actor has already received two posthumous awards this month, winning accolades from the Australian Film Institute and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
Ledger gained international stardom and was nominated for an Oscar for his role as a gay cowboy in the 2005 film Brokeback Mountain.
If Ledger is honoured at next February's Academy Awards, he would be only the second posthumous Oscar-winner after Peter Finch, who triumphed in 1976 for his iconic role in Network.
