Los Angeles - A pair of gold-rimmed glasses worn by John Lennon on a tour of Japan are for sale in an internet auction with bidding already reaching $1.5m.
The iconic glasses, which became synonymous with Lennon, are being sold on memorabilia site 991.com for Japanese TV producer Junishi Yore, who acted as an interpreter for Lennon on the 1966 tour.
The gold-rimmed, wire sunglasses are accompanied by a handwritten note from Yore explaining how Lennon gave him the eyewear as part of a gift exchange.
When Lennon was murdered in 1980, Yore pushed the lenses from the sunglasses in accordance with a Japanese tradition that calls for the glass to be displaced so the soul can see in the afterlife.
The auction closes on July 31. - dpa
