Johannesburg - Mamma Mia, the musical show based on the songs of Swedish group Abba, will premiere in Johannesburg next year in support of Unite Against Hunger, concert organisers said on Monday.
The national tour starts at the Sandton Convention Centre on February 15 followed by performances at the Cape Town International Convention Centre and the Durban International Convention Centre, Big Concerts said.
The tour began in Ireland last month, and will move to the Edinburgh Playhouse in Scotland before coming to South Africa.
Inspired by the story-telling of Abba's songs, writer Catherine Johnson's tale of family and friendship unfolds on a tiny Greek island.
On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years before.
There are currently 11 productions travelling the globe.
The original London production opened in 1999 and celebrated its fifth birthday in April. The show has gone on to gross over $1bn, and has been seen by over 18 million people world-wide.
