Washington - Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has threatened to sue a fan who has embarked on a campaign to have her elected as the next US president.
Patrick Crowe has received a letter from Oprah's attorneys warning him to immediately put an end to his campaign.
Oprah is of the opinion that Crowe is using her name to enrich himself but Crowe is serious about who he wants as his next president.
The registration plate on his car reads OPRAH8; he pays for a toll free telephone number 1-866-OPRAH-08 and on his website sells T-shirts and bumper stickers with the slogan "Oprah for President".
The slogan for the campaign on his website, www.dreamagic.com, is: "Oprah for president 2008 - someone we can love and trust!"
He also has an official song titled If Oprah was President.
Apart from the T-shirts there are links to "Lose weight like Oprah" and "Oprah's favourite bras".
His first aim is to get Oprah to agree to stand for election.
To attain this, he wants tens of thousands of people to support his campaign. Word is he has already spent half a million rand on the campaign.
Crowe cannot understand his heroin's attitude.
"How can I embarrass her by wanting to make her president?" he asked.
Oprah's attorneys allege they know why Crowe is so serious about his campaign. He's apparently selling his book at R200 and the T-shirts at R170 each.
