London - The Queen and Casino Royale led the nominations for the British Academy Film Awards announced on Friday, with Helen Mirren among the nominees for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II and Daniel Craig cited for his performance as James Bond.
The Queen led the field with 10 nominations, including outstanding British film of the year, best direction (Stephen Frears), best screenplay (Peter Morgan), and best supporting actor (Michael Sheen).
Casino Royale bagged nine nominations, followed by Babel with seven and The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine with six each.
The British awards - officially the Orange British Academy Film Awards but known as Baftas - have become an essential pre-Oscars stop since they were moved in 2000 from April to a February date, preceding the Academy Awards.
