New Delhi - Two publishers in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta have been sued for allegedly selling unauthorised Bengali language translations of the popular Harry Potter series, a news report said on Thursday.
The publishers - who have been sued by author JK Rowling and Warner Bros for fraud, copyright, character merchandise and trademark infringement - have been selling the books for the last 10 months, the Economic Times newspaper reported.
The publishers have said they will stop publishing these books, the report said.
The books have a publisher's note thanking Warner Bros for permission to use publicity stills from the Harry Potter films, implying a collaboration with the Hollywood producers.
Akash Chittranshi, legal counsel for Rowling and Warner Bros, told the Economic Times, "No such communication has been received nor has permission for any kind of use been given."
Ankur Publications in Bangladesh has the Bengali translation rights for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the report said. - Sapa-DPA
