SA gets 3 Emmy nominations

Cape Town - South Africa has received three nominations for the 35th International Emmy Awards.
Penguin Films' Home Affairs received two nominations for best drama and best actress (Brenda Ngxoli), whereas Sorted by TOM Pictures/SABC was nominated for best comedy.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Monday announced the 38 nominees in nine categories, spanning 16 countries, at a press conference in Cannes, France.
Britain leads the nomination race with eight nominations, including two nominations for the BBC drama The Street (Best actor and Best drama) and a nomination for Little Britain Abroad (Best comedy).
Brazil is in second place with seven nominations, Japan has four nominations and Germany, Denmark, China and Netherlands each have two nominations.
Colombia has received its first nomination ever for the documentary In God's Hands.
Global showcase
According to a press release by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the competition took place with three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months, with participation from over 500 judges in 35 countries.
"The International Emmy is the pre-eminent award to recognise creative and production achievements in the international television community," said Academy President & CEO, Bruce Paisner, also President of Hearst Entertainment.
"No other award or event presents such a global showcase for excellence in television programming."
In addition to the presentation of the International Emmy Awards for programming, the Academy will present the Founders Award to Al Gore for his role in launching Current TV and his ongoing effort to alert the world to global warming and the Directorate Award to Patrick Le Lay, chairperson of France's TF1 Group.
Winners will be announced at a Black-Tie Ceremony on November 19 2007 at the Hilton Hotel in New York City.
