Los Angeles - American film director Sofia Coppola, who won a best screenplay Oscar for Lost in Translation, has given birth in France to a baby girl named Romy, her publicist said on Wednesday.
It is the first child for Coppola, 35, and her boyfriend, French rock singer Thomas Mars of the band Phoenix.
"She and Thomas Mars had a baby girl, Romy, yesterday in Paris," the publicist, Robert Garlock, told AFP. "All are doing well."
Coppola, the daughter of Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, had announced her pregnancy in May.
Sofia Coppola met her baby's father while she was filming Marie Antoinette, a drama about the 18th century French queen who was guillotined during the French revolution.
The soundtrack of the film, currently playing in US theatres, includes songs from Mars' band.
Coppola married director Spike Jonze of Being John Malkovich fame in 1999. They divorced in 2003.
