Hanoi - Police in Vietnam said on Tuesday authorities were considering a bail application by former British glam rocker Gary Glitter, accused of committing "obscene acts with children" in the communist nation.
On Monday, Glitter's Vietnamese lawyer "proposed to pay $40 000 so Glitter can be out on bail," said Nguyen Duc Trinh, deputy head of investigative police in southern Vietnam's Ba Ria Vung Tau province.
"This is possible during the period of temporary detention, according to Vietnam's criminal procedure code. However, we still have to consider this issue," Trinh said.
The 61-year-old Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City airport on November 19 as he tried to leave Vietnam for Thailand.
A 12-year-old has accused the former rock star of having had sex with her, a claim that is still under investigation. Police said on Monday they had discovered "another victim of Glitter", an 11-year-old girl in Vung Tau city.

Last week, prosecutors said Glitter could later be prosecuted for child rape if it were proved that he had sexual intercourse with a girl under 13. He could then face the death penalty if convicted.
The ex-singer, famed for his outlandish outfits and a bouffant wig, has rejected all accusations made against him.
Prosecutors on Friday ordered that Glitter remain in detention in a Vietnamese jail for a three-month period pending further investigations.
Police said the Briton had visited Vietnam at least three times in the past few years and has lived in Vung Tau for eight months until his arrest.
Glitter's musical career peaked in the 1970s with hits including I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I Am).
He is reported to have lived in Cuba and more recently in Cambodia, from where he was expelled after sparking an uproar among women's and child rights activists.
