Cape Town - Four cops have been injured when a man, in an attempt to draw their attention that he was being hijacked, rammed his car into theirs.
A 28-year-old man was apparently driving in his VW Jetta near the Shoprite Centre in Macasar near Khayelitsha on Tuesday when two men approached him, got into his car and forced him at gunpoint to drive.
Captain William Reid said the man noticed a police car as he was approaching an intersection. In an attempt to draw their attention to his plight, he drove in their direction.
But his car collided with the police vehicle, which overturned, injuring four policemen.
The robbers shot the man in the lower back and fled the scene on foot.
The four policemen were taken to hospital. Two were reportedly in serious condition.
