Mum chops off baby's leg

Sydney - Surgeons took eight hours on Monday to reattach an Australian toddler's leg that was chopped off by his axe-wielding mother.
Doctors at Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital won't know for days whether the operation on the 17-month-old boy was a success.
"The 21-year-old woman has assaulted this boy with an axe causing quite a serious leg injury," said senior constable Michael Henry. "We have no idea as to what led to it, what caused it and the 21-year-old female is obviously assisting police with our inquiries."
Another woman in the household called an ambulance after the Sunday morning incident. Ambulance officers called the police. - Sapa-dpa
