Paris - Omar Sharif won the prize for best actor at the French film awards, the Cesars, on Saturday for his role as a Muslim shopkeeper in the drama Monsieur Ibrahim et les Fleurs du Koran (Monsieur Ibrahim).
Sharif, 71, plays Ibrahim in the film, set in 1960s Paris, who befriends and becomes a role model for Momo, a boy from a broken home. Momo eventually converts to Islam.
Born in Alexandria in Egypt, Sharif already won a lifetime achievement award for his work - among the films are Lawrence of Arabia, Funny Girl and Doctor Zhivago - at the Venice film festival last year.
