'Shame' - he's dead drunk

Dar es Salaam - A Tanzanian man drank himself to death at the weekend after gulping down nearly a litre of vodka in an unofficial contest at a bar in the capital, said police and witnesses on Sunday.
Witnesses said the man, in his 30s, and two other diehards began the fatal competition at the Double M Bar in the comercial capital, Dar es Salaam, late on Friday.
The man, identified only as Shame, guzzled 36 satchets, roughly 750ml, of vodka en route to victory before washing it down with two bottles of beer, they said.
But, he was rushed immediately to the hospital after losing consciousness and succumbed to the spirits before reaching the hospital, said police.
His closest competitor, John Walker, survived after swallowing 16 satchets, but was admitted to the main Muhimbili National Hospital in the capital.
The third competitor, whom police and witnesses identified only as John, guzzled a mere 10 satchets, after which he declared himself defeated and staggered home before his colleagues lost consciousness one after the other.
