London - Christian Slater's bodyguard escaped a knife attack without injury when a man apparently tried to stab the American actor as he left a London theatre, police sources said on Tuesday.
Slater, 35, was leaving a West End theatre late on Friday where he was performing in a stage version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The play's successful five-month run ended on Saturday.
A spokesperson for London's Metropolitan Police said a 44-year-old man was attacked by a knife, which didn't penetrate his skin, only his clothing.
He said officers hadn't made any arrests, but had retrieved the knife and were continuing their inquiries.
The spokesperson refused to name the victim, but police sources confirmed it was Slater's bodyguard, although they didn't name him.
The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that a witness saw the scuffle. The bodyguard started shouting and moved in front of Slater, but no one was hurt.
