Cape Town - Thirty of South Africa's funniest men and women have been nominated for the SA Comedy Awards - South Africa's first national awards for outstanding comedy.
Nominees feature in categories across the entire spectrum of South Africa's comedy industry, ranging from stand-up comedy, to plays, to TV commercials, to cartoons and print media.
Chief Executive of the SA Comedy Awards, Sam Hendrikse, believes the awards will become a highlight of the South African cultural calendar.
"For the first time in our country's history our extremely talented comedic performers and creative artists will be rewarded for their efforts.
"In a very real way, laughter unifies a country and we are delighted to honour those who make their contribution to nation-building through laughter," said Hendrikse.

The judging panel consists of leading figures in the entertainment industry as well as top media personalities.
There will also be three "Peoples Choice Awards" in which members of the public can cast their vote via sms.
The 2007 Awards will acknowledge creative comedy work that has debuted in the period between September 2006 and July 2007.
The inaugural awards ceremony will take place on 17 September 2007 at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town and will be filmed live for broadcast on SABC2 during December 2007.
