Cabbies threaten MTV awards

Copenhagen - A Danish taxi drivers' union on Monday threatened to disrupt traffic in Copenhagen during this week's MTV Europe Music Awards to protest a decision to let non-professional drivers transport VIPs and other guests in limousines.
The Greater Copenhagen Taxi Driver Association said it would block roads leading to the two venues of Thursday's show unless the city gives its drivers the sole right to handle transportation for the event.
But city officials, anticipating a high demand for limousines for the artists and their entourages, decided to let organisers call up drivers who don't have the proper training and authorisation.
"They want to take our bread and butter," union spokesperson Joergen Egemark said.
He said about 1 000 of the city's 2 350 cabs would on Thursday block airport roads and streets leading to the twin venues, a convention centre and Copenhagen's City Hall Square.
Justin Timberlake will host the November 2 show starring Muse, Nelly Furtado, Keane, The Killers, P Diddy, Snoop Dogg and Rihanna, among others.
MTV's Europe Music Awards are held in a different city every year. The winners are selected by fans across Europe.
