Get ready for Egoli movie
Cape Town - The lights on the set of the local soapie Egoli will be switched off for the last time on Friday - only to be switched on again immediately for the film which is currently only known as: Egoli - the Movie.
On Tuesday, M-Net and Franz Marx Films, the producers of Egoli, along with the film company Nu Metro, confirmed to Die Burger that the contract for the production of the Egoli film had been signed.
It will be released by the middle of 2010. The last episode will be filmed on Friday, but will still be seen on M-Net until the end of March.
The film's producers are Marx, Burgert Muller, currently Egoli's co-producer, and Pieter Venter of Brigadiers-Franz Marx Films.
Filming begins soon
According to the inner circle of Egoli actors, the final episode of the soap will apparently be so "open-ended" that it will pave the way for a movie that Egoli fans will want to see.
The script writers have written the film in a way that won't confuse people who didn't watch Egoli regularly, or even not at all. It is not yet clear whether the film will be shot on the current Egoli set.
The cameras will start rolling next month, said Lani Lombard, M-Net's publicity manager, on Tuesday. She confirmed that the script writers who currently wrote for the soap would also be used for the film.
On Monday, Muller wasn't able to confirm whether all the soap's stars would also be seen in the film.
However, Die Burger was told that it would be "almost unthinkable" for actors such as Christine Basson (Nora Naudé), Shaleen Surtie-Richards (Nenna) and Brümilda van Rensburg (Louwna) to be left out of the film.
Die Burger was also told confidentially that quite a few surprises were being planned for the film, such as actors who were on the cast many years ago, being returned to the story.
