Johannesburg - "Luckily Shaik and I have a cool relationship. At least he has a good sense of humour."
These were the words of a relieved Darren "Wackhead" Simpson, joker of radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo, when asked about the practical joke he played on Schabir Shaik.
Simpson phoned Shaik the day before his sentencing - imitated a warder and asked Shaik for his measurements to arrange for the uniform that he would be wearing at the Durban-Westville prison.
"Are you an autumn or a winter," Simpson asked Shaik, because if you are a winter, it will clash with orange."
The recording was broadcast during the Rude Awakening programme with Jeremy Mansfield.
According to Simpson he phoned Shaik immediately after the prank and identified himself. He then obtained Shaik's permission to broadcast the discussion.
"It is standard procedure with us.
"We always call the person concerned afterwards before we broadcast," Simpson said.
"As I have said he luckily has a good sense of humour."
Shaik is not the only celebrity to have been fooled by Simpson.
There is a long list of victims - among them Graeme Smith, Minki van der Westhuizen, Eugene Terre'Blanche and Felicia Mabuza-Suttle.
Simpson even fooled prankster Leon Schuster on two occasions.
