Cape Town - Heinz Winckler's brother is breathing down his neck in the fame stakes.
Johan Winckler, brother of the Idols pop star, has landed a lead role in the new youth drama The Res to be aired on SABC 2 from July.
Viewers will not get to know him as a Winckler since he will be assuming a stage name.
The series, teeming with sex and intrigue among a group of amoral young people sharing a block of flats in Durban, went into production on Monday.
The series comprising 26 episodes was written by Franz Marx, producer of hit series such as Agter Elke Man and Egoli.
The series is produced by Anant Singh and being filmed in Johannesburg and Durban.
The drama dealing with the daily lives of young people set on a Durban campus is to be broadcast on Saturday nights at 19:30 between the Afrikaans news and Road2Riches.
The dialogue is mainly in English, however, other languages, such as Afrikaans is interspersed. Sub-titles will be used.
Marx decided to use mainly unknown young people who had recently completed their drama studies. Producers and the broadcaster have cast a veil of secrecy over the series since they believe any early publicity - particularly involving Winckler - is likely to tarnish his glamour and that of the series.
Winckler, who completed the B Dram degree at the University of Stellenbosch and had grappled with heavies such as Macbeth, is described as a smart actor. He has written dramas and directed plays.
