Cape Town - News24.com, South Africa's leading internet news portal, has combined forces with MultiChoice Africa to bring Southern Africa its first local interactive TV news channel.
Subscribers will be able to view News24's top stories via their TV sets, as well as stories in other interest areas such as general news, sport and finance with particular emphasis on South Africa and Africa.
The interactive channel launched on October 9 on channel 59 of the DStv bouquet.
"The move to interactive TV is in line with Media24's vision to provide a world of information which can be accessed anywhere, anytime. The value of synergy between the Naspers owned companies of MultiChoice and Media24, News24's mother company, is reflected in this new, news channel.
"Extending our information and brand to other platforms besides the internet is an important part of News24's strategic objectives, but also we believe, add value to DStv subscribers who will have access to local news 24 hours a day," News24 publisher Cobus Heyl said.
Richard Fyffe, MultiChoice's General Manager - Interactive said: "This channel fits well into MultiChoice's strategy of providing our subscribers with local news around the clock, and we are pleased to be partnering with the leading news portal in the country to achieve this. News24 is another way in which MultiChoice Africa is responding to subscribers requirements."
News24 also provides news to other group companies, including M-Web, SuperSport and Moneymax, and hosts websites for group newspapers like City Press, Rapport, Natal Witness, Beeld, Die Burger and Volksblad.
Its editorial team updates the website throughout the day and night, seven days a week. Updated stories are automatically fed to DStv, where it will update on the interactive service, at various intervals (15 minutes for the top stories).
