SA Music Week kicks off

Cape Town - South African Music Week (SAMW) is back this year with a renewed sense of purpose.
The initiative is responsible for celebrating SA music through various activities, highlighting issues around local airplay on radio and TV and educating audiences about the opportunities in the music industry.
"In many ways, our experience has demonstrated that the most effective part of our initiatives has been the educational workshops," comments Zwelakhe Mbiba, of the SAMW working committee.
The workshop topics tackle issues from careers in the music industry, to how successfully market a demo, negotiate a record deal, all the way to a tutorial in performance skills.
This year's South African Music Week will be launching in Polokwane on September 29, a proud first for this province, which has been responsible for turning out a number of artists who've become luminaries on the South African music scene.
A number of respected industry players will be leading the workshops, ensuring that the information imparted is practical, user-friendly and sustainable.
The South African Music Week programme will be travelling to a range of provinces - Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Western Cape, North West Province, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape.
The workshops will be focused on the following topics:
Careers and Networking in the Music Industry
How to record a demo
Negotiating a record deal and understanding contracts
Basics of Copyright
Performance Skills
Music Archiving
Needless to say, no music industry event is complete without a blow-out live performance - and South African Music Week is no exception - there will be two shows held during the week, featuring an electrifying, multi-genre combination of emerging and established South African talent.
