Johannesburg - South African ballerina Angela Malan is leaving the country to join a dancing troupe in Denmark, the SA Ballet Theatre (SABT) said on Tuesday.
The senior principal dancer for the SABT, Malan has been invited to appear as a guest artist with the Pantomime Theatre and Ballet Gstespil in Copenhagen from July to September, it said.
"I am keen to continue learning and growing as a dancer and hope that the experience I gain through performing and travelling over the next few months will enrich me," Malan said in a statement.
"It is this enrichment and knowledge which I hope to bring back to South Africa with me."
Malan will appear in the upcoming season of Swan Lake, which opens on Friday.
"We know that she will be a wonderful ambassador for South Africa during her travels and look forward to possibly welcoming her back to our stages in the near future," said SABT artistic director and her long-time dance partner Iain MacDonald.
Malan studied ballet in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Italy and Canada, spending five years with the National Ballet of Canada before becoming the principal dancer of the State Theatre Ballet.
