Steve back on his feet

Pretoria - Steve Hofmeyr is literally back on his feet.
Less than 72 hours after an emergency operation was performed on him in a Gauteng hospital on Sunday night, Steve was allowed to get out of bed for the first time on Wednesday and take a few steps.
A friend of Steve and his wife Natasha, Amanda Singleton said on Wednesday afternoon that the doctors were very pleased with Steve's progress.
Steve was operated on because of a perforated colon.
The operation was extensive because the entire colon and his intestines had to be examined and cleaned during the operation to ensure that the contents of the colon that had leaked out did not remain behind in the stomach cavity.
"When one realises the extent of this kind of medical intervention, Steve's recovery is remarkable.
"One could almost say the old Steve is on his way back.
He is talking non-stop and making jokes.
"He was able to wash himself on Wednesday morning.
"Of course he's still enduring a lot of pain and he hasn't had any solid food since the operation.
"He is being fed intravenously.
"He started physiotherapy (on Wednesday) which will hopefully hasten his recovery."
There was still no indication of when Steve would be able to perform again.
