Cape Town - Singer-actor Steve Hofmeyr's book Mense van my Asem is not even on the shelf yet, but it's already causing controversy.
The book will be launched at a gala function on a game farm outside Pretoria on Monday.
The book has been on sale since the weekend.
On Sunday music promoter Louis van Wyk, Hofmeyr's manager of many years, criticised Hofmeyr about statements in the book.
Following newspaper reports this weekend, Van Wyk said Hofmeyr "is not being honest about his life".
In reaction to comments by Janine van der Vyver, Hofmeyr's former mistress, that his statements about her in his book suggest "serious memory loss", Hofmeyr said: "My memory is the highlight of my book and I'm sorry if it makes anyone uncomfortable".
Hofmeyr confirmed that his wife, Natasha, "approved of very little in the book".
"It would have been unethical of me to omit so many things from the book.
"All through my life I have been juggling privacy with being public 'property' - and I continue to do so in my book. People will be disappointed because I don't dish out many insults.
"But how does a writer avoid being subjective in his own memoires?"
