Steve quits blog for biography

Johannesburg - Steve Hofmeyr was going to bid a final farewell to one of his "satisfying projects", his blog called "Spoegblok" (Spitting Block), at midnight on Sunday.
Steve confirmed the news to Volksblad over the weekend and for the first time spoke openly of his future plans after having been ill recently due to a perforated colon.
Among other things he would end his involvement in projects that were not part of his career.
He also said that he was doing the "autobiography thing".
"With the jam-packed 43 years that I have to cover, I presume it's going to take up quite a bit of my free time."
He would scale down his career as singer, actor and TV presenter and his involvement in various projects of public interest to "exclusively my career as singer and actor".
Hofmeyr's blog was one of the three most popular blogs in the country and had thousands of readers.
He said the decision to quit it "was not an easy one".
"My blog created a platform for me to debate my view about issues that are important to me.
Priorities
"My recent emergency operation caused me to reconsider my priorities.
"I want to spend more time with my wife Natasha and our two sons.
"Over the last decade I dedicated so much of my free time - the times that I wasn't on stage - to the community and the matters that I believed in or had a passion for.
"Although these things will always be important to me, I can't allow any longer that they have priority over my family and my health."
The only charity in which he would still be involved was the Helping Hand of Solidarity.
His recovery from the operation was "very good" and he would continue with his Kris Kristofferson appearances at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.
"After that I'm going to continue my Absa 'Waarmaker Tour'.
"I'm very grateful for the indescribable support and love that my family and I received from every conceivable place.
"I promise from now on I'll chew my food 40 times before I swallow it," he added jokingly.
