Johannesburg - Arts and Culture Minister Pallo Jordan on Saturday said government would not exhume the bodies of the people who died in other countries during the apartheid era, SABC reported.
Jordan was speaking at the Matola raid commemoration ceremony in Maputo, Mozambique.
On 30 January 1981, a unit of the South African Defence Force, accompanied by agents who had infiltrated the African National Congress (ANC), invaded Mozambique and attacked homes used by the ANC at Matola. They killed 16 South Africans and one Portuguese national.
Jordan said it is very expensive to exhume bodies from other countries and bring them home. However he said families who have the financial muscle, and want to exhume the bodies of their relatives are free do so.
