London - America Ferrera, star of the US television show Ugly Betty, has had her smile insured for $10m, insurance market Lloyds of London said.
The policy was taken out by Aquafresh White Trays, a teeth whitening product manufacturer which is working with the actress for a US charity that campaigns for free dental campaign for jobless women.
Ferrera, 23, plays Betty Suarez, an ugly duckling with train-track braces on her teeth and an idiosyncratic dress sense, who works at a snobby New York fashion magazine.
Lloyds has a record of providing unusual cover for celebrities. In the past, it has insured Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards' fingers and screen siren Marlene Dietrich's legs.
Bette Davis is reputed to have once sought cover against her waistline expanding and an underwriter was once approached to insure an unnamed celebrity's chest hair, it added.
