Vanessa on Dead Man's Island

Cape own - Yawn! Okay, I'm bored. I'm sure there were a handful of viewers who perhaps wondered whether Vanessa would not be voted out on Sunday night.
They watch too much TV. South Africans playing Survivor are as predictable as Mzi catching fish. The vote for Vanessa was looming from three weeks ago. I should have started writing this earlier, knowing full-well the outcome of Sunday's episode.
The American version of this show on Tuesday concluded that the US Survivor plays host to some serious nutbags. South Africans, for all their attitude and flair, just don't compare on the weirdness scale. At least I can find some comfort in that.
I must hand it to Vanessa, she's aware of the cameras. And she knows that there's a bunch of us slouching at home in front of the TV on a Sunday night, throwing our opinion around feebly of who or who shouldn't get R1m.
The Durban estate agent with the sun-baked vocal chords is the epitome of cool on this show, but the Rana conglomerate that owns the shares in the merged tribe of Burba stuck to their alliance, and duly gave her the boot. Sshhhhh... she now secretly joins her ousted Aguila tribemates Mzi and Brigitte on Dead Man's Island.
Yawn! Did I mention I'm bored?
Anyway, while Rana members Lezel, Gareth, Zayn and Jacinda have been plotting and scheming to secure themselves a place in the top four - and even the top two - all their plans could still be in vain.
Vanessa managed to win the reward challenge - a night in a freezing cold air-conditioned hotel room. In the reward challenge, the contestants had to build a tower with blocks and the winner could take another contestant along to a night away in a villa.
Vanessa chose Gareth. Dumb move. All he did was use the opportunity to get a shower and a shave, and freshen himself up to win the third immunity challenge in a row.
Meanwhile, master fisherman "king-of-this-thing" Mzi, was feeding a starved Brigitte on Dead Man's Island with his enormous catch of the day, which looked like it weighed more than any of the contestants' feeble efforts in the immunity challenge.
Incidentally, Mzi is the firm favourite on the viewers' choice poll on the Survivor SA website. So Vanessa will arrive to find the only dead things on Dead Man's Island are fish.
