Cape Town - The beautiful city of Cape Town will battle it out with 67 cities across the globe to secure a spot on the Monopoly World Edition board game.
The popular game, which traditionally listed street names in each spot on the board, will feature 22 world cities instead of streets.
Cape Town is the only South African city and one of only two African cities (the other being Cairo in Egypt) to make the list.
The manufacturer of Monopoly, Hasbro, has set up a website where people can vote for cities from a prepared list, or nominate a city to feature in the game.
According to the website 68 cities have been pre-selected but the public can also nominate any other city - known as Wildcard cities.
'Top Metropolitan destination'
Cape Town is described as a city "nestled in a beautiful setting at the foot of Table Mountain, in the southern-most tip of Africa".
Set in a country "rich in history and symbolism" the "Mother City is swiftly becoming a top Metropolitan destination for travellers", it says.
The public can vote for their top cities online every day until 29 February 2008.
The 20 pre-selected cities with the highest worldwide votes will make it onto the board, whereas the top two Wildcard cities will be voted for from 1 to 9 March 2008.
At 17:00, Cape Town was ranked 31st of the 68 cities with 0.8% of the total vote.
Paris is in the lead with 2.9% followed by London, New York, Rome and Sydney.
