Cape Town – Well if you thought it was just humans who enjoyed oral sex you were wrong.

According to researchers two male bears were observed performing the act of fellatio in captivity in Croatia.

The brown bears are said to have been performing oral sex on each other for several years.

The researchers noted in their case study that the bears probably do the act for pleasure and may be a result of the fact that they were weaned too early.

According to a report by Live Science the two bears were orphaned and placed in captivity in 2003.

Lead scientist Agnieszka Sergiel said that the researchers witnessed 28 acts of oral sex over a six year period.

The bears are currently in a sanctuary in Kuterevo, Croatia.

According to the study the larger bear was the main one of the two who received oral sex.

He would reach orgasm after several minutes and then would push the other bear off of him with his hind legs.

The scientists noted orgasm by the muscular contractions given by the larger bear and the there also fluid on the muzzle of the other bear who provided fellatio.

There have been other cases of bears performing oral sex in conjunction with masturbation but according to scientific research these acts were seen as abnormal and may have been caused because the bears were living in conditions that were not conducive to a healthy living.

This particular case has been heralded as the first case where two bears have had long term oral sex and where their living conditions were not substandard, according to the scientists.

Other animals

There have been other animals all over the world that have been seen providing oral sex.

Female cheetahs and even lions lick the genitals of their "same sex partners" and this has been viewed as a courtship ritual by researchers.

Bonobo chimpanzees perform oral sex on each other to apparently relieve communal tensions.

Earlier this year two male penguins were observed caring for an egg at the Wingham Wildlife Park in the UK.

According to a report by IBT, after an egg was abandoned within the park by two other penguins, staff members decided to place the egg with the gay couple.

The couple took turns protecting the egg and on 12 April the egg hatched.

The gay penguins took the chick as their own, and were observed feeding and protecting the infant constantly.
