Donkey carts may go solar

Johannesburg - Donkey carts just may go solar, it emerged on Thursday.
This was one of the ideas the Tshwane University of Technology's Institute for Advanced Tooling discussed with Science Minister Derek Hanekom.
The solar-powered carts could provide reliable transport to school for pupils and teachers in rural areas, Hanekom said after the event.
"Although more research will have to be done, we should not delay too long in testing the concept to determine whether it is feasible in real life."
During his visit on Thursday, Hanekom took a ride in "Fire of the Dawn", the only solar vehicle to win three awards at the 2012 Sasol Solar Challenge.
This creation of the vehicle followed the development of a hydrogen bike, which could travel 100km on 100g of hydrogen.
The bike was funded by the department of science and technology as part of its Hydrogen South Africa programme.
