Cape Town – The second Green Expo will take place in Cape Town at the Cape Town Convention Centre with 10 000 people expected to attend.

People who attend the expo stand a chance of winning an eco home to the value of R1.2m that will be built by the Green Venture Group who will be showcasing their green housing development in Wellington, Natalie Naude, Chief Operating Officer of The Green Expo, told News24.

The winner of the competition will be announced on Saturday at The Green Expo.

“This year we also partnered with National Geographic Channel who have recognised the synergy with The Green Expo by broadcasting the issues surrounding planet Earth.”

Naude said after launching the expo last year the public is picking up on their ideas of green going mainstream.

“Green is no longer the preserve of the greenies but is being driven not only by an increased awareness by the man in the street but also by pressure from increasing energy and fuel costs as well as water availability. We are definitely focussing on the positive differences that we can make and not on the doom and gloom of impending disaster."

Chris Naude, chief executive officer of The Green Expo, said art also features prominantly with some great young talent bringing the message home through some creative artworks at the (eco)nversations exhibtion.

Naude said Nampak and Canvironment week are presenting some fascinating talks by some of South Africa's thought leaders in the sustainability world.

"Green Movie, sponsored by Valpre Spring Water, will be screened throughout the weekend and about eighty exhibitors will be showcasing their products and services giving a great deal of food for thought and reinforcing our belief in the importance of re-thinking the sustainability challenges facing us. An Upcycled Fashion Show by Live Eco will showcase fashion by students who have used the Avant Garde theme and upcycled garments to main stream fashion."

Tickets for the expo can be purchased at the door and it costs R50 for adults and R30 for students and pensioners and it will run from 23 to 25 November.
