Cincinnati - An Ohio zoo says an endangered Sumatran rhino that fathered the first Sumatran rhino calf born in captivity in more than a century has died.

Ipuh was one of the Cincinnati Zoo's most famous residents. He died on Monday.

The zoo says Ipuh had fathered three calves since 2001, the most ever in captivity.

The zoo estimates Ipuh was at least 33 years old and says it believes he was one of the oldest Sumatran rhino on record.

Sumatran rhino are seriously threatened by loss of habitat and poaching. Fewer than 200 live in the wild in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The Cincinnati Zoo says there about 10 in captivity worldwide.

Ipuh had spent the last 22 years at the zoo.
