Blantyre - Authorities in Malawi said five people were killed, and 17 badly injured, during violent storms in various parts of the country.

Police in the commercial capital Blantyre said on Monday that two bodies, including that of an infant, were found floating in the river. They said they were still looking for the body of an elderly woman in the Shire River, Malawi's largest river.

In the capital Lilongwe, police said a ten year old girl was electrocuted by a wire that was exposed during a storm. A man was also killed when a wall fell on him.
