Johannesburg – Five out of six men arrested in connection with rhino poaching in Limpopo are expected to appear in court on Friday, the Hawks said.

This follows the arrest of two groups of men on Wednesday, spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

"The first three men were arrested at their homes in Vaalwater and Lephalale. It is one South African aged 24, a Mozambican aged 36, and a Zimbabwean aged 27," Ramaloko said.

They were linked to two poaching incidents in October and November last year at the Lambelane nature reserve and the Dinyala game lodge where two rhino were shot and dehorned.

They would appear in the Lephalale Magistrate's court on Friday on rhino poaching charges.

Three other men were arrested on Wednesday in Dwaalboom, Limpopo.

One was shot during the arrest and was being treated at a nearby hospital and would appear in court at a later date once he had recovered.

The other two men would appear in the Thabazimbi Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of rhino poaching and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

They were found in possession of a hunting rifle and were linked to two poaching incidents in July.

In the latter incident, in Marakele National Park two rhino were shot and dehorned, and in Leshoka Thabang game lodge one rhino was shot and dehorned.

The search for more poachers would continue, Ramaloko said.
