Johannesburg – A Mozambican man believed to be linked to a rhino poaching syndicate was arrested in the Ramotsahala informal settlement, near Rustenburg, in North West, the Hawks has said.

Captain Paul Ramaloko said the 28-year-old was arrested by a task team investigating rhino poaching.

He had been linked to the eight men arrested last week, who were believed to be part of a rhino poaching syndicate.

The man allegedly supplied the bullets used to illegally hunt rhino.

"We confiscated 200 000 in Mozambican currency, ammunition and a stolen vehicle," Ramaloko said.

The man would face charges of possession of unlicensed ammunition and would appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Ramaloko praised the task team for "working around-the-clock" to apprehend the alleged poaching syndicate.

The other eight suspected poachers will appear in the Brits Magistrate's Court on Monday.

They remain in custody.

They were arrested following the poaching of eight rhino on the farm Klipkopspruit, near Brits.

One of them was a ranger.
