Windhoek - Namibia is the first developing country to submit its biennial climate change mitigation report to the UN Framework Convention in Climate Change (UNFCCC), its ministry of environment and tourism announced on Monday.

It was also the only country to do so on time, the ministry said.

Ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said in a statement that Namibia's report contained a comprehensive green house gas inventory for four years from the date of submission.

"Namibia's report further includes information on mitigation taken and it spells out financial, technological and capacity-building needs and support received," Muyunda said.

Namibia's report said the country absorbed not only all its own green house gas emissions, but those of other countries.

It had already suffered from climate change in the form of severe droughts, such as in 2013, and severe flooding after heavy rainfalls, which were becoming increasingly erratic.

The Cop20 climate summit is taking place at the moment in Lima, Peru, where it started two weeks ago.
