Johannesburg - Government will begin its "No Drop" assessments of water use and water loss by municipalities, the water affairs department said on Thursday.

"The... assessments are being implemented across all municipalities... from October 2013 to March 2014 and the results will be released every two years," spokesperson Mava Scott said in a statement.

The first results would be published in the Blue Drop/No Drop report in 2014.

"[The report] will publish audited and verified values pertaining to water use and management thereof in each local municipality, and will report such figures as part of the Blue Drop scorecard."

Earlier, the Sol Plaatje municipality announced a water shut-down in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape, for a number of nights to enable reservoir levels to build up and stabilise. The shut-downs would be from 22:00 to 05:00, starting on Friday.
