Cape Town - Shocking undercover video footage has been released that shows an employee on a cruise ship apparently purposefully tossing garbage bags into the sea.

The cruise ship in the two videos is the Manifica, a cruise liner owned by MSC Cruises.

To first video can be viewed here.

The second video can be viewed here.

According to the Huffington Post the video was filmed by a Magnifica crewman who no longer works for the liner.

The unnamed ex-crewman sent the footage to maritime lawyer Jim Walker who then posted the shocking content on his blog Cruise Law News.

Disposing of garbage into the ocean is not only environmentally dangerous but it violates international laws.

MSC Cruises said that these videos were taken out of context and were taken at another angle from an incident that was reported in 2013 by a media outlet in Brazil.

In that specific incident a crewman while being filmed by a passenger is seen throwing garbage bags out directly into the ocean.

MSC Cruises also stated that an investigation is underway and that the company has implemented more strict measures to ensure that this does not happen again.

MSC Cruises also cannot provide more details about the incident due to ongoing investigations about the video with the Brazilian government.
