Cape Town – A US animal welfare group has made a considerable contribution to the lives of a number of dogs, who were forced to live in cages their entire lives.

According to a report on the Huffington Post, the Beagle Freedom Project removed 9 dogs from the a number of research laboratories in California.

This was the first time the dogs had ever seen sunlight or touched grass.

The group posted their efforts on YouTube, in a video that showed the apprehensive pups being brought out by volunteers.

Each dog was taken out and was allowed to explore its surroundings.

According to the nonprofit the dogs never had names, just numbers so it was important for the volunteers to give them names that provided them with an identity.

According to the Beagle Freedom Project, beagles specifically are frequently bred for lab testing because they are so friendly.

The group is currently working with the Las Vegas state department to create a legislative bill that seeks to limit animal testing in Nevada.
