Southern Mexico rattled by magnitude-6.6 quake

Oaxaca - Southern Mexico has been rattled by a magnitude-6.6 quake.

The tremor was felt in the southern states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco.

Some tourists and residents rushed out of buildings in the colonial city of Oaxaca, but there were no immediate reports of damage there.

The US Geological Survey reports that the quake struck just before 14:00 local time (20:00 GMT) in an area of Chiapas near the Guatemalan border.

Civil Defence director Ricardo de la Cruz told local media some people suffered panic attacks, but there were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
