Teen whose rape went viral speaks out

15 July, 08:00 AM

Two months ago, 16 year old Houston, Texas, student Jada was drugged and raped at a house party. The next day, Jada says she had no recollection of what had happened to her but later saw footage of her assault. Images and a video of the rape were posted online.

Jada decided she didn’t want to remain anonymous and spoke out about her rape to a local news organisation. Following her decision to be interviewed, the hashtag has been drowned out by Jada’s supporters who have condemned the ridicule Jada faced online.

Jada spoke up against rape and a culture that shames survivors. "There's no point in hiding", she told a KHOU reporter. “Everybody has already seen my face and my body, but that’s not what I am and who I am".
